Frequently Asked Questions
What primary services do you offer?
We are a full service residential renovation general contractor. Through a combination of in-house personnel and a skilled subcontractor team, we can perform complex framing projects, mechanical and plumbing work, and complex electrical work including above and below grade electrical service changes/upgrades. Drywall. paint, tile, demo, finish carpentry are also part of our day to day services.
What do you specialize in?
What don't we specialize in? Our projects have gravitated toward kitchens and bathrooms (surprise!) but we have been involved in exterior siding projects, basement projects, and remodeling complete floor and whole home projects.
What are the rates of your services?
We do provide a fixed price (as long as the scope of work is clear). Many contractors cling on to the "cost-plus" contracts of the past but Serenity One's experience and confidence allows us to carry a fixed cost when starting a project.
What type of warranty do you provide (on custom work)?
Two year coverage for any work performed or managed by Serenity One personnel.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, always. We carry $2 million liability insurance. This insurance safeguards the home owner from any secondary damage caused by a renovation or construction. Thankfully, our insurance has never been used to cover any damages as Serenity One takes the various levels of precautions and safeguards against any work to be performed. Serenity One has intra-municipal business licenses that enable us to legally operate in various jurisdictions in Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
How do you quote and provide estimate?
In a very, very detailed manner. Using your input, images, and wishlist, Serenity One creates the most detailed estimates in the industry today. We don't just do estimates, we create plans, proposals, and schedules that lay out in writing all the different types of construction services and timelines required for your project.
How are you able to maintain quality control throughout your projects?
We only work alongside drywallers, painters, tilers, flooring installers, plumbers, and electricians who have excellent customer reviews, have an existing relationship with Serenity One, and who perform their work to a high degree of local standards. Also, we use the best materials available - from engineered lumber, to Schluter products, to Shaw Floors products, to Jeldwen windows, to Metrie trim and doors, etc.
What makes you different from larger renovation companies?
With larger renovation companies, your project could be one among 20-30 concurrently running a given Production department. With Serenity One, your project would be among 3-5 exclusive projects being constructed concurrently. With fewer projects to look over versus larger companies, your project would be a primary focus with Serenity One
Where are you based?
The office is in Surrey and is home base for the Accountant, Marketing professional, and the occasional client meeting. However, all of our projects and trades are based in Vancouver, West Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Burnaby.
What are your first steps when taking on a project?
First step is really a complete and thorough understanding of the customer's desires and Wishlist for the renovation project. Budget expectation and the current condition/assessment of the home is a close second and third step.
How quickly can you mobilize and start a project?
It depends on the nature of a project. If permits are involved, a start date could take months. However, if no permits are required, a start date of 2-4 weeks would be reasonable considering that major design options have been agreed to.
